With only three High School Harriers, Silex cross country coach Andrew Mills knows this season will be a tough one, but wants the focus on having fun.
“I see lots of potential in our three runners,” said Mills. “We are young and inexperienced but it gives us something to build towards the future.”
Mills will send out Colton Johnston, Sean Brennan and Lexee James this season.
While is focus is having fun and helping his three runners have a great season, he also wants to work to make cross country strong by getting middle schoolers excited to be a part in the future. Mills is a former track athlete from St. Dominic and coached a couple years there after graduating so he knows what it takes to be a running athlete.
Cross country runners however are a different breed.
“It takes a little bit of crazy, a lot of dedication and wanting to get that endorphin release that you can’t get through other sports,” said Mills. “What other sports out there that all you do is basically run for three to five miles a day at practice.”
The first Invitational will be at Clopton at 4 p.m. on Sept. 9.
