Winfield-Elsberry traveled to Orchard Farm for the opening round of the Class 3 District 5 playoffs on Friday night for the second time in 2021 looking to continue to a historic football campaign.

What the Warriors got, however, was a sloppy, turnover-filled nightmare in horrific weather conditions. Rain and wind gusts of up to 30 miles per hour stifled coach Cody Spegal's offense, as Winfield-Elsberry's season was left out in the cold with a 21-7 defeat at the hands of the Eagles

The Warriors finish the 2021 season with a 5-5 record, a considerable improvement from Spegal's first season at the helm, where the team went 0-10. Spegal talked about the game, the strides his program made in 2021 - as well as the future of Winfield-Elsberry football with the Lincoln County Journal's Shawn Singleton.
