The final set of fall postseason district play begins for Troy Buchanan and Winfield, as their football and volleyball programs look to bring home championships in 2020.
After a dominating season on the floor, Winfield’s volleyball squad enters the Class 3 District 6 Tournament semifinals at Montgomery County High School as the top seed with a 16-5-1 record. The Warriors will take on fourth-seeded Bowling Green (5-15-1), who moved on with a forfeit victory over Wright City.
Tip-off for the match is 6 p.m. today, with the winner moving to the championship game on Wednesday against the winner the matchup between host Montgomery County and St. Charles West.
No. 3 Troy (11-9-3) had an up-and-down regular season, but looks to make a title run as the Trojans begin the Class 5 District 8 Tournament semifinals against Hickman with Columbia Independent at Battle High School in Columbia on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The winner will face either Rock Bridge or host Battle in the district championship game at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
After a hot start, Troy’s football ended the regular season with five consecutive losses, including a 40-7 road blasting by Lutheran St. Charles. The No. 6 Trojans (3-6) will open the Class 6 District 4 Tournament quarterfinals in Columbia as they take on Rock Bridge at 7 p.m. Friday night.
No. 7 Winfield suffered a rough season under first-year coach Cody Spegal. The young Warriors, who enter the Class 3 District 3 quarterfinal with an 0-9 record after getting hammered 53-26 at home by Cuba, will travel to Washington Friday night to play No. 2 St. Francis Borgia.
