Small in numbers, Silex boys golf long on expectations

Evans hopes those mistakes can be corrected with a year of experience under their belts heading into the 2023 campaign.

Silex is a small squad, but it hopes to pack a large punch on every course it plays on.

“We have six total this year,” Evans said. “We hope to compete and win in our matches this year.”

As they have been the last two years, the Owls will be anchored by two-time state qualifier Carter Johnston. Expectations are high for the senior to lead Silex as a group, as well as individually.

“Hopefully, Carter will make another run at state,” Evans said. “I think he has a good chance at placing top-15 there and winning a conference title as well.”

Johnston isn’t the only player Evans is counting on to lead the Owls in 2023.

“I also expect Sara Gruenewald and Jacob Mudd to be successful in our No. 2 and No. 3 spots behind Carter this year,” Evans said.
