Silex, Mo. -Comeback wins have become ordinary for Silex.
The Lady Owls erased a 16-point deficit against Clopton to claim third-place at the Clopton Hawk Girls Basketball Invitational, and they had to overcome another double-digit Hawks lead to down their nemesis once again, 45-41, in front of the Homecoming fans on Jan. 13.
“We were down by 12 at one point, and the girls were able to stay resilient and knocked down some late shots to secure the victory,” Silex coach Robert James said. “Our bench came up big down the stretch. Karlie Ellis and Tori Mudd both hit a couple shots in the second half at crucial moments in the game.
“We needed that production to seal the win.”
Sara Grateke led the Lady Owls with 12 points, including a pair of foul shots in the closing seconds to ice the victory. Abagail Mooney dished out nine assists, and Maddy Hall had seven points and 10 rebounds.
Silex improves to 9-5 overall and 4-1 in EMO Conference play with the win.
