Taylor Howard got busy on the basepaths on Friday, knocking four hits in Silex Lady Owls 21-7 victory over Cuba.
Howard doubled in the first, singled in the third, doubled in the fourth, and doubled in the fifth.
Silex collected 24 hits and Cuba had eight in the high-scoring affair.
The Lady Owls got things started in the first inning when they scored on a stolen base during Maddy Hall’s at bat. Then Hall doubled, driving in one.
Silex notched ten runs in the fifth inning. Kacey Williams, Maci Mooney, Sara Grateke, Howard, Hall, and Williams all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.
Karlie Ellis got the win as the righthander lasted four and two-thirds innings, allowing eight hits and seven runs while striking out six and walking zero.
Haffer took the loss for Cuba. The pitcher allowed 24 hits and 21 runs over five innings, striking out two.
Silex saw the ball well, racking up 24 hits in the game. Howard, Tori Mudd, Grateke, Tayah Williams, Sarah Weatherford, Mooney, Abagail Mooney, Hall, and Rita Thoroughman all managed multiple hits. They also stole 14 bases during the game as four players stole more than one. Weatherford led the way with three.
Cuba tallied eight hits in the game. Payne and McDonald each managed multiple hits for Cuba. Payne went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Cuba in hits.
