With high hopes of a great race, sophomore Josiah Heras, competed in the 2019 State Cross Country Championship at Gans Creek Cross Country Course on Saturday.
With nearly perfect weather, a mere 67 degrees and sunny, 173 runners took to the course. With a time of 18:05, 10 seconds slower than his best time, Heras finished in 87 place.
Coach Ezra Tillotson said, “To reach it to the state meet as a sophomore is exceptional and I expect better results from him during future seasons.”
The Elsberry High School student mbody surprised Heras on Friday with a departure of a lifetime. As he walked down the hallway students packed both sides of the hallway and ‘We Are the Champions’ played on the intercom system, giving him a special send off.
