Elsberry, Mo. - The stage is set for the Elsberry softball team as they try for a 3Peat season. For the last two seasons the team has won districts and had consecutive quarter final appearances. Third year coach Levi Jacyna and his assistant Kari Koch-Dowell will try to guide their team with the loss of four key seniors, but Jacyna is hopeful with his crop of freshmen that will be moving into the rotation. Returning key players will be Payton Robinson, Kelsey Pflasterer, and Abby Jenkins who are all seniors this year.
Although Jacyna knows his run for a repeat season will be a little harder he is not worried. “I fully expect us to do some more damage as we usually do. With that being said, we are also in an “on ramping phase” so to speak with the freshmen. They are getting used to playing our style of softball, and the things we expect from them,” he said.
The plus for the team is that many of the girls who play spend a lot of their time playing traveling ball in the summer, so the skills to play on the field are already there Coach Jaycna just needs to tame them to his liking. He finished by saying, “ People know what to expect from us, fast and explosive offense, with a fundamentally sound defense, so let’s see if they can stop what is coming!”
