As the 2019-2020 basketball season comes to a close Elsberry High School coaches and teams are looking forward to their play in districts which will be held at Clopton High School next week.

Lady Indians

With just two games to go in the regular season and a 14-9 record, the Lady Indians are on a five game winning streak, taking four conference wins over North Callaway (41-36), Bowling Green (41-30), Mark Twain (41-34) and Wellsville (34-24).

According to Coach Kari Koch-Dowell, she likes what she sees in here team at this point.

“In the last few games we have started to figure out what works best for our team.  We have more kids stepping up on both ends of the floor.  It should be exciting as we move forward into districts.”

Indians

For the Indians it appears maybe they have found the basket this season as their 3-19 record doesn’t truly depict the last two weeks for the team.

Occasionally this season the team has had trouble getting into double figures, but last week against Mark Twain the team scored 78 points to take the win.  The other plus for the Elsberry team lately is the ability to play with teams even though they may take the loss.

Looking forward to district play, Coach Johnson had this to say about his team, “We are starting to play our best ball when it matters most. We had a season-high 78 points against Mark Twain and held a very good Bowling Green team to 40 points with only 10 coming in the second half. Guys are beginning to play with some confidence and are playing extremely hard right now. Going into districts we thought we deserved a higher seed but that is out of our control. We know we haven’t played our best but we’re finally putting it all together just at the right time. We’re hoping to build some momentum these next two games before district.”
