The Elsberry High School basketball teams traveled to North Callaway on back to back nights, winning three out of the four games.

On Thursday, the girls earned victories in both of their games, while the boys split their games on Friday night. Then for the first time since 2015 the Lady Indians Varsity squad knocked off Bowling Green at home on Monday.

Varsity Girls

In the varsity girls game at North Callaway the players were able to squeeze out a close victory by the score of 41-36.

After the first quarter the Lady Indians were not for sure what was in store for them.  Finding themselves down 14-11, Elsberry needed to kick it in and play good basketball.  By halftime Elsberry had moved forward, holding a two point lead 24-22.  Both teams came out flat after the short resting period, scoring seven each.  In the final eight minutes of the game it kept spectators on the edge of their seats, but Elsberry was able to outscore the Thunderbirds 10-7 and take the win.

Leading the scoring and the only player in double figures was junior Kylie Kinsler with 11 points.

For the first time in five years the Lady Indians were able to defeat rivals Bowling Green with a 41-30 victory at home on Monday.

The first quarter was a wash with both scoring eight points. Elsberry stepped it up in the second with a 23-16 lead going into halftime.

The third quarter saw the Lady Indians extend their lead to 10, with a 30-20 score. Bowling Green put on a surge midway through the 4th quarter, but it wasn’t enough, and Elsberry secured a 41-30 victory.

Leading all scoring was Tyra Henderson with 10, followed by Tynesha Henderson and Kinsler with eight each.

JV Girls

The JV game gave several players the opportunity to get some playing time under their belts.

The girls have not seen a lot of playing time over the last couple weeks and it showed in the first quarter.

The Lady Indians only made one basket in the entire seven minutes.  Elsberry found their groove in the second quarter as they outscored North Callaway14-6 to take a five point lead at halftime.  The Lady Indians increased their lead in the second half to take a 32-17 win.

Leading the scoring with 12 points was Makenzie Gladney.

Varsity Boys

From all accounts the Elsberry High School boys basketball had a good game based on some of their prior games this season.

For starters ten players got into the scoring column in the game and the team scored 36 points in the 32 minutes.  Although North Callaway dominated the entire game, Elsberry players tried to hold their own in their loss 70-36.

JV Boys

The junior varsity game was a little more exciting as the Indians pulled out a 40-36 victory over the Thunderbirds.

Although Elsberry started the game in slow motion, only scoring one basket in the first quarter, they picked up the pace in the second quarter dominating the game scoring 17 points.

The dominance continued in the third outscoring the opponent by five points.  Going into the final seven minutes of the game, the Indians held a slim three point lead.  After battling back in forth in the final quarter, Elsberry had the lead when the final buzzer sounded.
