Winfield HS Girls soccer team

Winfield High, May 10, 5 p.m.-

Winfield hosted Fatima in a non-conference game this Tuesday in very warm conditions. The heat seemed to detract from the quality of play for both sides, with exhausted players on each team struggling to mount effective attacks. It led to a 0-0 first half.

With time waning in the second half, it appeared the victor would be decided in overtime, but a handball in the penalty box gifted Winfield with a penalty kick, which was converted successfully.

An insurance goal was added four minutes later, Winfield's defense held on to the shutout, and the Warriors earned a hard-fought, 2-0 win.

Both of Winfield's goals were scored by junior Jessi Rudar, her 10th and 11th goals of the season, including the well-placed penalty kick that proved to be the game-winner.

This marks her 4th game-winning goal of the season.

Sophomore Renzlee Davidson earned an assist, her first assist of the season.

freshman Nyia Sullivan played the full 80 minutes as Winfield's goalkeeper, and made 3 saves to earn her 2nd solo shutout of the season.

The win improves Winfield's overall season record to 7-11. Winfield plays next on Thursday, May 12, at 5 p.m. when they travel to Mexico for a non-conference game. It is the final regular season game scheduled for the Warriors before preparations begins for district play on Saturday, May 14.

On May 14, Winfield will travel to St. Charles to play against North Point at 11:30 for a district tournament game.
