“They told me I was going to die, but I didn’t.”

So far, the articles in this week’s cancer awareness section have focused on individuals in the Elsberry area who are currently struggling with cancer, or who have recently beaten it.

Sometimes, cancer reveals itself in some pretty strange ways.

Elsberry resident Judy Holland is engaged in what has now been a year-long battle with Stage 3-B lung cancer. 

“It’s a struggle, but it’s one that you face one day at a time. It’s a journey.”

Sometimes cancer provides no warning signs at all.

“My wife has faced cancer and beaten it twice, so I’ve always joked that I would out-live her.”

Tiffani Rockwell-Fomera was used to seizures, as she had suffered greatly from them until she was in the fifth grade, so the episode that she experienced on August 8, 2018 while getting ready to leave for work was at first nothing new.

One goes through life seeing people in different situations, but when it is you a whole new light is shed.

Elsberry’s former mayor, Terry Martin, has been punching back against cancer for eleven years, and he hasn’t heard a bell yet.
