Samuel “Sam” L. Elston, 92, of Troy, MO, passed away on Sunday, November 21, 2021. He was born on April 21, 1929, in Lincoln County, the son of Thomas Curtis and Sarah Emma (Barnes) Elston. After attending the local schools, Sam went on to graduate from Troy Buchanan High School, class of 1947. He then married Bonnie Howell, and the happy couple were blessed with 2 beautiful daughters: Patti and Beverle. Sam was a doting father and an exceptional husband, and truly enjoyed both of his roles. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, serving in the Korean War. Sam worked for McDonnell-Douglas Air Craft Manufacturer, as a maintenance supervisor. When Sam wasn’t working he could always be found with his family. He was very outgoing and never met a stranger. Sam was always very organized and everything had it’s place. In addition, he kept all of his vehicles meticulously clean. He had a million dollar smile, and he was always smiling. After his beloved wife, Bonnie, passed away, Sam married Melba Colbert. Sam was a very kind man, who had great faith in God. He always went to church and it was very important to him. Sam will be remembered lovingly by all those who knew him.
Sam is survived by his 2 daughters: Patti Briggs-Riffle and her husband, Phil of Troy, Beverle Prior of Troy, his grandchildren: Kris Briggs (Kari), Scott Briggs (Sarah), Jason Elston (Lyndsi), Bonus grandchildren: Randy and Phillip Rodney and their families, Pamela, Page, and Patrick Riffle, (and their families), great-grandchildren: Kaily, Sami, Abbi, Payton, Ben, Kaden, Addison, Maddie, special niece, Marlene Beemer, nephews: Carl Himmel, Clayton (Diane) Elston, and Vern Elston, his church family, and many, many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wives, Bonnie Elston, and Melba Elston, his brother, Kenneth “Bud” Elston, his sister, Vivian Himmel, and 2 infant brothers.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. until 12 noon, at the McCoy-Blossom Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1304 Boone Street, Troy, MO, 63379, 636-528-8244.
A funeral service was also held on Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2021, 12 noon, at the funeral home in Troy, MO.
Interment was in Troy City Cemetery, Troy. Rev. Dr. Steve Oliver officiated. Pallbearers were: Kris Briggs, Scott Briggs, Jason Elston, Carl Himmel, Clayton Elston, and Gary Bergfeld. Honorary pallbearers: Kaily Briggs, Sami Briggs, Abi Briggs, Payton Briggs, and Vern Elston.
