Vernon H. Mennemeier, 94, passed away on August 22, 2019 at Troy Manor. He was born on September 5, 1924 in Enon, MO to Leo and Leona (Burkemper) Mennemeier. Vernon attended St. Theodore’s School through 8th grad and Wentzville High School for a year and a half. He was called to serve in the U.S. Army in September 1944. Vernon received his basic training at Fort Hood, Texas. He was then sent to the South Pacific 182nd Infantry Company A and fought on the islands of Leyte and Cebu, with a short stay in Japan after the war ended. Vernon was honorably discharged September 1946 with a Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. When he returned home, he began work for City of St. Louis as well as help with the farming operations. In 1955, he started working at Cupples products (HH Robertson) and retired in 1986. 

On August 19, 1961,  Vernon was married to Mary Agnes Kumbera Lenk at Sacred Heart Catholic Church by Father Wencelaus Klaric.

He was an avid baseball fan and attended many ballgames at the old Sportmans Park and a few at Busch Stadium. For many years he bowled at the American Legion in Wentzville. He is a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 323 - Wentzville, MO for 70 plus years. Vernon was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish - Troy, MO and the Troy Knights of Columbus. 

Vernon is survived by four step-children; Rosemary Lenk Boland, Martin(preceded in death by his wife Sylvia) Lenk, Kenneth Lenk and Charlene (Lenk) and husband Joe Twellman, brother: Leo Mennemeier Jr., grandchildren;Paul (Sue) Boland, Dale Boland, Elaine (Boland) Vanderbos, Brian (Rachel) Lenk, Melissa (Steve) Orf, Danny Lenk, Wanda Lenk and Martin Carter, several nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 43 years Mary Agnes Kumbera, brothers: Melvin Mennemeier, Donnie and wife Melba Mennemeier, sister:Laverne Orf and husband Tony and sister-in-law: Joann Mennemeier.

Visitation was held on Monday, August 26, 2019 from 3 p.m.- 8 p.m. at McCoy-Blossom Funeral Homes & Crematory 1304 Boone Street Troy, MO 63379.

Mass - Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at 10 a.m. Sacred Heart Catholic Church 100 Thompson Drive Troy, MO 63379. Father Mike Lydon officiated, concelabrant Fr. Donald Schramm and Fr. Tom Wissler.

 Pallbearers: Paul Boland, Dale Boland, Randy Mennemeier, Danny Mennemeier, Mike Orf, David Mennemeier, Honorary pallbearers: Larry Mennemeier, Mark Mennemeier, Stephen Orf, Martin Carter, Danny Lenk, Brian Lenk.

Interment- Sacred Heart Cemetery Troy, MO. 

Memorials - Masses or Sacred Heart Cemetery or Donor’s Choice c/o the funeral home.
