Funeral Services for Peggy Jean Wheadon of Elsberry, was held at 12 noon on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at the Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.  Rev. Roger Briggs, pastor of the Star Hope Baptist Church, officiated with burial in the Elsberry City Cemetery near Elsberry.  Serving as pallbearers were Billy Collins, Steven Sharpe, Kevin Whitehead, Tony Bauer, Gerald Herras, Leon Pritchett, Jim Heitman, Wayne Tillotson and Rick Phillips.

Mrs. Wheadon, 82, passed away Thursday morning, July 11, 2019 at the home of her daughter near Elsberry.  Born Nov. 26, 1936 in Elsberry, she was the daughter of Roy and Betty Blankenship Collins.  A lifelong resident of Elsberry, Peggy was a 1954 graduate of Elsberry High School.  She was united in marriage on July 28, 1956 in Elsberry to Earl Wheadon, Jr.  This union was blessed with one daughter, Pamela.  Peggy worked for a number of years as a waitress at Whiteheads Restaurant in Elsberry and later as a clerk at Forrest Keeling Nursery near Elsberry.  She was a long-time member of the DOM Club in Elsberry, Tuesday Mediation, and the Monday Night Card Crew.  Peggy was affectionately called “The Pie Lady” by those who loved her Coconut Cream Pies.  She was a member of Star Hope Baptist Church near Elsberry.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Betty Collins; one brother, LeRoy Collins; three sisters: Verla Mae Powers, Dorothy Sharpe and Marcella Whitehead; and her beloved husband of 48 years, Earl Wheadon who died Feb. 14, 2005.

Survivors include their daughter, Pamela Steavenson and her husband, Hugh K. “Duck”, of Elsberry; one grandson, Justin Scherrer and his wife, Kristy, of Winfield; and one great grandson, Cole Patrick Scherrer. She also leaves one niece, Kelly Phillips, and her husband Rick; four nephews: Billy Collins and his wife, Carol, Steven Sharpe and his wife, Tammy, Kevin Whitehead and his wife, Mary and Kirk Whitehead  all of Elsberry; several other relatives and many friends.

Visitation was held from 10 a.m. until time of the service at 12 p.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.  Memorials may be made to the Page Branch Park in care of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home, 107 S. 5th Street; Elsberry, MO 63343.  Online condolences may be made at
