Alma E Singleton, nee Martin, 93, went to her heavenly home while worshipping on Sunday, September 20, 2020. Alma was born in Moscow Mills, Missouri on July 14th, 1927 and resided there until she left to attend the University of Missouri. She majored in Home Economics and was a leader on campus. Mizzou is where she met her future husband, Robert D Singleton and they were married in 1948 with both of them graduating with honors. They raised their family of 5 children in Troy, Missouri later moving to Chesterfield, Mo. They retired to Warsaw, Missouri and then to Clermont Florida. Her last few years she lived in Assisted Living in Vero Beach, Florida.
Her husband, Bob and daughter, Leah preceded her in death. She leaves a loving legacy of 4 children, Lynnette David (Walter), Lorene Greer (Jim), Larry Singleton, and Lloyd Singleton; daughter-in-law Edie Singleton and son-in-law Jim Sardone. She was blessed with 11 grandchildren, Brad David, Britt Michie, Aaron Edwards, Doug David, Ashley Saint, Philip Singleton, Elizabeth Dixon, Allison Van Wormer, Joe Sardone, Sara Moore, and Jonathan Singleton. The blessings continue with 19 great grandchildren with #20 due in October. She is also survived by 3 sisters-in-law; Judy Singleton, Karen Singleton, and Ardell Martin.
Alma (Mimi as she was known by her grandchildren) was always busy and very accomplished with household projects like quilting, furniture refinishing, and gardening. Her hands were never idle and she needed to feel like she had accomplished many tasks at the end of the day. She was very intelligent and her mind was very sharp even to the age of 93. She never missed a loved ones birthday and was reading at least a book a week.
Her strong Christian faith and love of Jesus and the word of the Bible were the central part of her life. She led by example and always up-held “if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything.” Her family and the church was what she centered her life around. The last seven months of the mandated isolation was very hard on her although she looked forward to video chats with family several times a week. She was ready and prepared to meet her heavenly father and passed from this earth while singing a hymn.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Grace Community Church, PO Box 121673, 14244 John’s Lake Road, Clermont, FL 34712.
A graveside service will be held in Warsaw, Missouri.
