A driver is in custody after leading Troy police officers on a wild high-speed chase down Highway 61 on Friday, and crashing into numerous cars in the process.
According to Troy Police, and multiple eyewitnesses, an officer tried to pull over a car for a traffic violation in north Troy. Instead of stopping, however, the driver pulled a u-turn and headed the wrong way southbound along 61.
The driver slammed into at least four other vehicles during the chase, causing at least one rollover crash. The dangerous pursuit finally ended when the chasing officer used a pit maneuver to stop the crash, causing both he and the driver to crash.
Several people were taken to a local hospital, including the officer. Troy Police officials said the officer has some chest pain from the airbag, but his injuries are not considered life-threatening.
The other injuries from the crash are not considered life-threatening as well, according to police.
