Two boys from Troy were lost in a fatal car crash that occurred at 10:40 p.m on Aug. 11, an accident that injured three other local teens as well.

Brayden Hood (16) and Mario Montalvo (16) were killed when the Ford Fusion they were passengers in drove off the left side of Missouri Route 47 (west of Sunswept Drive) and struck a tree.

Hood was taken to St. Louis Children’s Hospital by an Air Evac Helicopter, but was pronounced early in the morning on Aug. 12.

Montalvo was pronounced at the scene of the accident.

The three other teens in the car suffered minor to serious injuries, with the Highway Patrol reporting the Montalvo, Hood and a third, seriously injured boy as not wearing seat belts.

The boys were students at Troy Buchanan High School.

“The Lincoln County R-III School District and Troy Buchanan High School Trojan Family are mourning a great loss today,” the school district said in a statement. “We begin our school year tomorrow and look forward to welcoming our students back. However, we recognize that many will be grieving following the loss of two of our students.

“In order to support our students, staff, and families, counseling services will be available in the Performing Arts Center at Troy Buchanan High School from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. all week. Our thoughts are with those impacted by this tragedy.”

Go-Fund-Me accounts have been set up for some of the boys.

One is a memorial fund for Hood (tinyurl.com/y6sn2nta).

Another is to raise aid for the seriously injured teen that survived the crash (https://tinyurl.com/yyxqcfel).
