The Elsberry Middle School Student Council continued their tradition on Monday of hosting area Veterans to honor them for their service in the United States Military.
The time of honoring these men and women began with a full breakfast provided by the Elsberry Schools food service team. All guests and their respective student were then escorted to the high school gym for an assembly.
Those in attendance, including many students of Elsberry Schools, were welcomed to the event by student council member, Christine Wehmeyer, followed by the recognition of EHS students who will be entering the service in 2020 after graduation, Shane Lewis and Fernando Aguilera.
Musical numbers played during the ceremony by the EHS Band included the National Anthem and the Armed Forces Salute, under the direction of Rebecca Cooper. Veterans’ March was sung by Treble Makers under the direction of Jenny Lynn Heras.
Featured speaker for the event was Tom Seeger, Vietnam Veteran. He spoke about the aspects of the Vietnam War as compared to the acceptance of War in today’s society, and that this year marks his 50 year anniversary for serving in the U.S. Army.
The program concluded by the Ceremonial Playing of “Taps” by EHS student, Lyman Heras. The sponsor for the MS Student Council is Rebecca Lorenson.
