Winfield Police resignations

From left to right Winfield Police Department Officer Anthony Bean, Chief William Burleson, Officer Christian George, and Sergeant Thomas Moore. Bean, Burleson and Moore recently tendered their resignations, leaving George as the lone officer on the department.

By Oct. 15, the city of Winfield will be left with just one police officer.

Since Sept 21., three Winfield Police Department officers have resigned, including Chief William Burleson, whose last day on the job is Oct. 15.

In a post on the department's Facebook page on Sept. 21, Burleson wrote, "during my time here, this department has served the community with respect, integrity, and professionalism. I am proud of what this department has accomplished.

"It has been an honor to serve this community as your chief of police and I will truly miss serving the community in this capacity, but unfortunately what is right is not always the easy decision. I will forever be grateful for all of the support and love this community has shown myself and this department."

Also tendering their resignations are Officer Anthony Bean and Sergeant Thomas Moore, who had just arrived at the Winfield Police Department a couple of weeks earlier. Moore is leaving at the close of business today.

The resignations leave Officer Christian George as the lone remaining member of the department.

Attempts to reach Mayor Ryan Ruckel, or members of the Board of Alderman, were unsuccessful.
