A fake $50 bill, a pursuit and flooding led to the death of a 20-year-old St. Charles woman last Friday night.
The incident happened around 10:30 p.m. when Cole M. McCall, 21 of St. Charles drove his 2005 Chevrolet Silverado into the flooded Lost Creek in Elsberry.
The driver was apparently driving at a high rate of speed down 7th Street when he hit the levee and ended up in the creek. Police have reported that McCall had passed a fake $50 bill and was being chased by the person receiving the money.
McCall, not familar with the area, drove off into the flooded creek, fled the vehicle and left Jennelle Wulfmeier inside. She was unable to make her way out resulting in her death.
McCall then proceeded to steal a vehicle in Elsberry, drove to St. Charles and was later arrested.
He is now facing two charges: leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in a death and stealing a car. He is being held at Lincoln County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
(All persons charged of a crime are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law)
