Six homeowners living on Highway U reported Sunday morning that their mailboxes had been damaged.
One homeowner told Sheriff’s Office deputies that they heard a loud banging noise around midnight, but did not realize their mailbox was damaged until the morning.
The damaged mailboxes looked like they had been hit with either a bat or some other heavy metal object, with several of the boxes being knocked over or having post damage.
The six houses were all between the 500 and 1400 blocks of Highway U. Sheriff’s deputies who canvassed the area found no suspects or witnesses, and Lieutenant Andy Binder said that the Sheriff’s Office has no other leads.
“Property damage happens all the time unfortunately, so homeowners often have to pick up the tab,” Binder said, clarifying that most of the mailboxes would have to be replaced.
