ELSBERRY –The remains of a Pike County man who went missing almost four years ago were discovered in Lincoln County, have been identified and the family has been notified.
According to a statement from the Pike County Sheriff’s Office, on April 24, a field hand working just south of Elsberry found human remains, and contacted the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. The Lincoln County Coroner’s Office was brought in for forensic analysis, along with a K9 unit and a drone to search the area for additional remains, but nothing else was found.
Two days later, a forensic odontologist successfully identified the remains belonging to Timothy Padfield.
Padfield’s wife reported him missing on May 31, 2019, after last speaking to him the day before about 5 p.m. Padfield had attempted to retrieve items from their home in Annada, which was rendered inaccessible because of flooding.
Also during the call, Padfield’s wife said her husband said that water was up to his neck when he came to the house, and that he was going to spend the night at the house because he wasn’t feeling well.
After filing the missing person’s report, Mrs. Padfield went to Annada to search for her husband. She contacted the Elsberry Fire Protection District, saying she found mud in the home, as well as in the bed.
The Missouri Highway Patrol’s Water Patrol conducted a search at the time, but came up with nothing.
A cause of death was not mentioned for Timothy Padfield by the Coroner’s Office, according to the statement.
