Some may not realize what a gem the Joseph Palmer Family Memorial Library is to the Elsberry Community.

The Joseph R. Palmer Family Memorial Library’s “Summer Reading Program” kicked off in grand fashion as numerous kids packed the library for a day of learning and fun.

This year’s theme ‘Imagine Your Story’ will pick back up on June 26 and continue until the final celebration on Aug. 7.

Now that society has opened up with business as usual, so has the library, welcoming people during their normal hours.

Recently, the Summer Reading Program titled, Imagine Your Story, kicked off for area children.  Even though kids might have missed the first day, that doesn’t matter, stop by the library to acquire a reading log.

On June 26 the program will pick back up after taking a break while summer school is happening,  with a program every Saturday until the final celebration on August 7.

According to Librarian Sarah Hunt there was a great turn out for the kickoff.

“It doesn’t matter if you miss a day, keeping the log is the most important thing about the program.”

Not only are  there books and events for kids, but Hunt would like to announce the addition of digital and audio books for all library members.

The program,  called  “Libby”, can be accessed through an app on phones or online with computers and library card number.

“It is easy to use, just put your card number in and then browse the library’s collection,” Hunt said.

The expense for this opportunity is being financed by the library.
