A local man was killed on Thursday when his vehicle crashed head-on into another along Highway 79 in Lincoln County.

At around 7 a.m., a 1998 Mazda Protege was traveling southbound on Hwy 79 near Highway C when the driver, 44-year-old Roger Flerlage, of Old Monroe, lost control on the ice-covered road.

The car careened into the path of a 2010 Mazda 3 driven by Steven Fryer, 40, of Winfield, and collided head-on.

Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers and St. Charles County Ambulance District paramedics arrived shortly after the crash. Flerlage was pronounced dead at the scene at about 7:40 a.m.

Fryer was airlifted to Mercy Hospital St. Louis with serious injuries from the crash. Neither driver was wearing a seat belt.

Per MHSP policy, the crash is under investigation.
