Hugh Nisbet

Lincoln County, Mo. – From its inception in 2013, Hugh Nisbet has been a regular fixture of Lincoln County Marine Detachment 1405.

For his service to the community, he was recently named Division Marine of the Year.

As a charter member of the Lincoln County Marines, Nisbet was the detachment’s first Judge Advocate General, serving in that position for two years and creating the detachment’s first set of by-laws.

He has since served the Lincoln County Marines as detachment commandant, junior past commandant and paymaster. Nisbet currently serves as the adjutant/paymaster.

Nisbet has been active in fund-raising within the detachment, working with the semi-annual Poker Runs and the Toys for Tots annual campaign. He has also received donations for detachment-held raffles. He is also an active recruiter for the detachment.

Nisbet led the Lincoln County Marines’ successful effort to host both the 2017 Department Convention and then the 2017 Midwest Division Fall Conference. Finally, he led the detachment’s effort to bring the 2021 National Convention to St. Louis.

For his service as a member and officer with the Lincoln County Marines, Nisbet has earned or been awarded the following:

  • Detachment Staff Appointed Bronze Ribbon with 5 stars
  • Detachment Commandant with 1 star

  • Commander’s Award UCMC Reserve for Toys for Tots
  • Certification of Appreciation for Outstanding Support Toys for Tots
  • Distinguished Service Award Bronze with 2 stars
  • Detachment Marine of the Year 2017-2018
  • Detachment Commandant’s Award (2)

Nisbet has been a member of the Marine Corps League since 2003, when he became a charter member of the William E. Barber Detachment 1110 in Idaho, serving in various positions during his 10 years as a member to moving back home to Missouri.

For his service as a detachment member and officer, Nisbet has earned or been awarded the following:

Nisbet continues to serve his fellow veterans as a member of the National Organization of Veterans’ Advocates.

This organization works with veterans and the claims for compensation from the Veterans’ Administration. He has worked the National Veterans’ Legal Services Program, a pro bono organization, which handles veteran appeals before the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans’ Claims, receiving two gifts from that organization for his work, and is now certified to do informal hearing presentations for veterans.

Nisbet is an active and outstanding member of the Lincoln County Marines who works to improve the Marine Corps League at not only the detachment level, but also works to improve the Department, Division and National Marine Corps League. He works as hard as a member of the Military Order of the Devil Dogs.
