A Moscow Mills man is in custody in the Lincoln County Jail after leading Troy police officers on a wild wrong-way chase down Highway 61 on Friday.

According to Troy Police, and multiple eyewitnesses, an officer tried to pull over a car for a traffic violation in north Troy at approximately 2:30 p.m. Instead of stopping, however, the driver pulled a u-turn and headed the wrong way southbound along 61.

The driver, identified as Joshua E. Cheatham, 30, slammed into at least four other vehicles during the chase, causing at least one rollover crash. The dangerous pursuit finally ended when the chasing officer used a pit maneuver to stop the crash, causing both he and the driver to crash.

Several people were taken to a local hospital, including the officer. Troy Police officials said the officer has some chest pain from the airbag, but was treated at a St. Charles County hospital and later released.

Cheatham was transported to Mercy Lincoln for a medical evaluation, and later transported to the Lincoln County Jail.
Upon searching the vehicle, several small liquor bottles were located along with a small handgun.
Cheatham was charged with one count of Resisting Arrest/Detention/Stop by Fleeing, two counts of Leaving the Scene of a Accident. The Honorable Judge Allsberry set bond at $75,000, cash only. Additional charges may be added at a later time.

The other injuries from the crash are not considered life-threatening as well, according to police.
