Lincoln County, Mo. - Need help ironing out the kinks in your resumé? Have you taken a break from the workforce and are unsure how to get back in? Thinking about changing careers and need advice on how to make moves from one field to another? The MJC (Missouri Job Center) can answer all these questions and more, and now they are bringing their services to Lincoln County.
Starting July 21, the MJC will be sending a staff member to Troy from 2-4:30 p.m. on the first and third Thursday of each month. They will utilize the office space now made available at the brand new LCEDC (Lincoln County Economic Development Center) facility at 251 West Collier Street in Troy.
The MJC offers a variety of services, including editing resumés for style and content, offering job training assistance in the tri-county area, and helping connect job-seekers to local employers. Dorothy Jones, a workforce specialist with the MJC, will be the first staff member assisting people on behalf of the MJC. She will bring an extra-laptop for individuals to use within the two and a half hour window.
Along with professional development, “The MJC organizes [career opportunities] using jobs.mo.gov,” according to Jones. “That’s a state sponsored website that has job leads on it, [and] it is free for employers to list their openings on.” There is no cost for listing jobs through the MJC, and Jones invites employers to call the Warrenton office for further information.
LCEDC Executive Director Julie Rodgers shared about hosting the MJC in the newly acquired office space, stating, “One of the primary reasons we wanted to move out of our prior location to [our new location] is so that we would have more shared office space that we could set up to offer some space to those partners we work with. One of [those partners], primarily, is the Missouri Job Center.”
Rodgers, in conjunction with the MJC, is responsible for arranging the workforce specialists to meet bimonthly to better provide services to residents of Lincoln County. She hopes the meetings will assist residents who would have otherwise refrained from utilizing the MJC due to its nearest office being located in Warrenton.
