Five eighth-grade students from Winfield Middle School received $500 scholarships through the National Junior Honor Society.
The students needed to exhibit exceptional scholastic performance – all five of the students chosen maintain 4.0 GPAs – and be involved in the school and in the community.
“They are in sports, do things with student council, they have a presence in the school and are respected by their peers,” Emily Hines said. Hines is a librarian at Winfield Middle School.
Recipient Macy Beckemeier fixed old, worn out benches with her Girl Scout Troop; Kade Berry worked with kids for her project; Ellie Smith babysits for parents who find themselves in tough spots and helped plan school events; Jessi Rudar donated to PAWS shelters and rescued dogs; Lily Boschert helped with a secret Santa project, getting gifts for teachers.
The money will go towards college scholarships.
