Kuntz MHCA Employee of the Year

Elsberry Health Care Center Director of Nursing Christy Kuntz receiving the Missouri Health Care Association Employee of the Year award.

Christy Kuntz was named the 2019 Employee of the Year during the 71st Annual Missouri Health Care Association Convention.

Kuntz serves as director of nursing at Elsberry Health Care Center in Elsberry. She was selected from 33 nominees for the statewide award, which was presented to her on Monday during the convention in Branson.

The Employee of the Year award recognizes dedicated and valuable employees for their good work to make their care facility a great place for staff and residents. Kuntz was recognized for being a pioneer in her field. Under her direction, Elsberry Health Care Center’s antibiotic stewardship committee has developed several forms and practices that the consulting pharmacist and Q1PMO nurses have used to help other facilities. The Center’s consulting pharmacist is in the works of getting results from the antibiotic stewardship program published due to the high success rates.

“Elsberry Health Care Center is a 5-star facility, and the residents are genuinely happy here. Christy ensures personalized care and fosters a family atmosphere with her residents and her employees, any of whom have been here long term,” her colleague wrote when nominating her for the award.

“Christy won’t settle for second best, and she expects a lot from her employees and holds them to a high standard. She will get out on the floor and work next to them if necessary. She genuinely cares for her employees and makes sure they have what they need to do their job.”

Kuntz organized donations for a couple, both certified nursing assistants at the Center, that recently lost their home to a fire. She even personally delivered the donations on her own to time to ensure the couple was managing in their time of need.

Kuntz was 17 when she began working in the Center’s dietary department after high school. She later worked as a certified nursing assistant before going on to LPN school. After graduating and passing her boards, Kuntz worked as a charge nurse, served as ADON/MDS coordinator for seven years before become director of nursing in October 2012.
