Elsberry Police Chief Rob Marchbanks responded to a call involving an unwanted person attempting to take a child from the custodial parent without permission on June 9.

The Probable Cause Statement says that Autumn Reed a resident in the 400 block of N. 4th Street in Elsberry reported that Aaron Belcher, 28 of Elsberry showed up at the residence without notice.

Upon opening the door Belcher grabbed their two-year-old daughter from the home without permission and began walking to his truck. Belcher was standing in the street talking to another motorist. Reed followed Belcher to the street where she was able to take the child back into her custody and went to go back into the home.

The report states that Belcher followed her to the home. As the door was being closed Belcher pushed it open with both hands entering the residence without permission.

Reed’s fiance, Frank Kosmicki stepped between Reed and Belcher  and according to Kosmicki, Belcher swung his fists at him, striking him in the face causing his glasses to cut his face in two places.

Kosmicki stated he was able to push Belcher back outside the home. Once 911 was called Belcher fled to his truck and left the area.

Belcher was charged with Felony Assault - 3rd Degree and Misdemeanor Domestic Assault - 4th Degree.

Bond was set at $15,000 cash only with no contact with victim and with minor child.
