Peoples Bank & Trust Co. would like to congratulate Gary Leifert on his upcoming retirement from banking.
Leifert’s career started in 1969, working in accounting and finance with the United States Air Force where he spent time in Missouri, Kansas, Texas, New Jersey and ultimately, Vietnam. This was followed by a short stint with the Veterans Administration in Lincoln, Nebraska, working in the Loan Guaranty Division.
In 1977, Leifert came to Boatman’s Bank in Troy, but left in 1988 to work for Winfield Banking Company. Eleven years later, as Winfield Bank President, he worked with Donald Thompson to merge Winfield Banking Company with Peoples Bank & Trust. Leifert then joined Peoples Bank & Trust as Senior Vice President after the merger.
In his 52-plus years in banking, Leifert will tell you, “I have done everything from janitor, snow shoveler, teller, bookkeeper, carpenter, security detail, fry cook and making every type of loan you can imagine.”
In addition to his Senior Lending roles at the bank, Leifert has also devoted countless hours to many community organizations including Troy Rotary, Troy VFW Post 8828, Troy American Legion Post 94 and the Bread for Life Food Pantry.
Leifert plans to keep busy in retirement with gardening, fishing and landscaping projects. He also looks forward to spending more time traveling with his wife, Cheri.
Leifert’s last day at the bank will be May 25, so please feel free to call the bank at (636) 528-7001, or stop by his office at 430 East Wood Street in Troy to wish him well in this new journey.
