The Elsberry Community Growth Association held a ribbon cutting ceremony Saturday, May 13, to recognize some new Elsberry businesses revitalizing the downtown area. The south side of Broadway Street that runs through the middle of town, has welcomed four new businesses and new ownership of an established store over the last year.
Elsberry residents and retired educators, Skip and Diane Hale are instrumental in this revitalization. They have purchased four store fronts, three of which were refurbished by the Elsberry Historical Society. The new businesses include the Elsberry License Bureau, Penrod’s Butcher Shop, Grandma’s Treasures, Southern Grace Coffee, and Elsberry Hardware.
The opening of the Elsberry License Bureau has given not only Elsberry residents a place to complete their Department of Revenue business, but all those in the tri-county area. Jeff Penrod, who is a fourth generation butcher, and his family opened in February. They offer fresh meats, various refrigerated products and a daily homemade lunch special. The Hale’s
Grandma’s Treasure Shop offers all the items their mom’s left behind to be treasures to someone. Anyone needing that coffee pick me up item can visit Southern Grace Coffee. Owners, Hank and Mitzi Wylie have grown their business from one mobile truck to two trucks and a brick and mortar offering all their great products. Finally, Elsberry Hardware is under the ownership of Elsberry native, Tyler Herring. Herring has completed a makeover of the business, adding many seasonal products, lumber, and a new customer service counter.
Other businesses on Broadway include Pickle Barrel Sandwich shop & flowers; Heritage on Broadway Wedding & Event Venue, First Mid Bank & Trust, Elsberry Animal Hospital, Shooters Saloon Bar & Grill, and American Family, Nicholas Cacioppo agent.
