Each year in preparation for the annual Lincoln County Fair, the Lincoln County Livestock Youth Board hosts the Lincoln County Preview Jackpot Show. Matt McCrory, one of the Troy FFA Agriculture Advisors, has been involved in the Lincoln County Preview Jackpot Show for multiple years.

“The Lincoln County Preview Jackpot Show gives students the showing experience before they exhibit at the Lincoln County Fair,” McCrory said. This year the show was held in early June. The proceeds of the show go towards the grand champion and reserve champion banners that will be presented at the Lincoln County Fair, all other money is put to use within the livestock barns for needs that are determined by the Youth Livestock Board.

One member of the Lincoln County Youth Livestock Board is Emily Harris. She has been involved with the board for three years and has exhibited poultry at the Lincoln County Fair each year. The board is open to any 4-H or FFA member that is at least thirteen years old and is interested in dedicating their time to helping the youth in the fair.

“I wanted to become more involved in the fair. The livestock board was a way for me to do that and also help younger members during the fair,” Harris said. The Lincoln County Youth Livestock Board works year-round. Other than hosting the Preview Jackpot show, the board designs the Lincoln County Fair exhibitor shirts, organize clinics as well as assisting during the week long Lincoln County Fair.

The youth livestock board is aimed to act as a mentor for the younger showmen throughout the year.

“My favorite memory would be showing in general. As a livestock participant you work very hard and spend a lot of time to raise your animals throughout the year. The fair is your chance to see all your hard work and time pay off,” said Harris.

The winners of the show included: Tyler Bruns – Troy FFA Chapter, Grand Champion Steer; Reed Bruns –Troy FFA Chapter, Reserve Champion Steer; Sasha Lisovsky – Elsberry FFA Chapter, Grand Champion Lamb; Olivia Dunard – Cuivre River Eager Beavers, Reserve Champion Lamb; Josie Horne, Grand and Reserve Champion Goats; Amanda Orth, Grand Champion Hog; Mikayla Werkmeister – Cuivre River Eager Beavers, Reserve Champion Hog.
