On Jan. 21, DeAnna Price was given a commendation by the Lincoln County Commission at the Old Courthouse in Troy.
At the 2019 Outdoor Track and Field Championships, DeAnna set the American record for the hammer throw, with a distance of 78.24 meters.
The distance ranks her as the fourth woman in history to reach that distance.
DeAnna held back tears of joy in front of a packed courtroom to receive the commendation, presented by Commissioners Mike Mueller and Matt Bass.
“This means everything, thank you,” DeAnna said. “I want to thank my mom and dad because they both showed me what it means to be a true athlete. It’s something bigger than yourself. It’s being something more for somebody else. It’s being able to reach somebody on a new level. It’s helping them find who they are and being able to accept who they are.”
