An evening of familiar songs was presented on Mar. 11 to the parents and community of Silex School District. Angie Burkemper, music teacher, explained that the concert was a gift provided to local parents and community members to thank them for their support during the school year.
Students wore costumes from Disney films and stories, and the young people seemed to have an enjoyable time performing the songs for the public. “Many people might not realize it, but the music from Disney can be very complex,” commented Burkemper. “However, it is recognizable to audiences and accessible to music students.”
The same performance was later taken to the elementary students, many of them recalling and relating to the songs easily. The Choir and High School Concert Band used the event as yet another way of showing younger kids what is possible as they advance to later years of schooling.
