On Feb. 4, students from 19 area high schools were on the Hannibal La-Grange University campus to participate in the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) District 7 Leadership Conference. High Schools participating included Bowling Green, Clopton, Community R-6, Elsberry, Hannibal CTC, Louisiana, Marion Co., Mark Twain, Monroe City, Montgomery, Palmyra, Pike-Lincoln Technical Center, Silex, Troy, Van-Far, Warrenton, Wellsville-Middletown, Winfield, and Wright City.
With nearly 500 students registered, competition was tough in areas such as accounting, technology, business concepts, presentation, and public speaking. Many of the events were completed previously via on-line testing at local high schools, while other performance events were determined that morning in front of judges from area businesses.
Elsberry took 24 competitors to FBLA Districts and brought home 21 medals. Nine students will move on to compete at the state level in Springfield Missouri in April.
The following is a list of EHS students who will be attending State FBLA and their event: Hailey King, Sales Presentation and Future Business Leader, first in both; Makenna Milles, Intro to Information Technology, first; Liberty Killian, Insurance & Risk Mgmt, first; Danielle Georgie, Database Design & Application; first; Leora Marshall, Database Design & Application, second; Brooke Gray, Accounting II, second; Caylyn Dowell, Advertising, fourth; Sydney Ricknak, Intro to Business and Intro to Business Communications, fourth; Taylor Mooney, Intro to Information Technology, fifth.
State competition will be April 19-21, in Springfield.
