Phase two of renovations to the Elsberry Schools campus is underway.
The biggest improvement will include revamping entrances to the buildings to include an extra layer of security for people to enter, new restrooms in the area of the fifth and sixth grade classes, construction of a new superintendent’s office and middle school office, high school office remodeling and enlarging the concession stand area at the high school gym.
The Board of Education has selected Hankins Constructions out of St. Louis as the general contractor for the work to be done. A construction schedule has been developed with the majority of the work being conducted over the summer, but minor things will be done over spring break and up until the end of the school year without disruption to the school day. Currently, trees have been removed and supplies for the project have been brought to the school grounds.
The renovations were approved last April when the community passed Proposition 2, a no-tax increase bond issue in the amount of 2.5 million dollars for the district.
Projects on the bond that have already been completed include improvements to the AG building, parking lot repaving, replacement of the gym floor and remodeling of the FACS classroom.
After these renovations are completed, the original goal of keeping everyone safe and secure in the buildings with secure entrances will be in place.
