A large number of students and parents attended the annual fishing event.
Lincoln County area Conservation Agent Kevin Eulinger and other agents spoke with the children about techniques and safety of fishing. They also supplied all the equipment for students to use.
Elsberry VFW members that were cooking and serving were Mary Amman, Dave Robbins, Donna Dryden, Dean Tapley, Dale Hurley, Dee Taylor, and Onie Coddington.
Every May before school ends a group of students at Elsberry Schools have the opportunity to spend the day learning the techniques of fishing and the opportunity to try those out.
Fifty five students, 45 parents and 10 Elsberry Schools teachers and staff spent the day at the lakes owned by Forrest Keeling Nursery under the direction of agents from the Missouri Department of Conservation for this event.
This fun day for Elsberry students wouldn’t be possible without the support from the community. The Elsberry American Legion Post #226 entities donated the funds to purchase bait and prize money for the students to win, while The Elsberry VFW Post 9064 purchased all the items for lunch and with the help of the Ladies Auxiliary, took time out of their day to prepare it and serve it. Not to mention the access to the lakes and the fishing equipment supplied by the Missouri Department of conservation.
Elsberry School personnel attending were: Jill Koch, Doneta Gladney, Susan Painter, Karla Rimel, Lauren Schulz, Dawn Mullins, Felicia Toeniskoetter, Joe Fomera, Rachel Ward and Lynda White, also two student helpers Wyatt Ratcliff and Destyni Gabel.
Organizer of the event Lynda White had this to say about the opportunity for Elsberry Students, “The students just love the opportunity to go out and spend the day fishing. We would like thank all those who contributed to the day’s events; we couldn’t do it without you.”
