The Lincoln County Chapter of the American Bible Society is celebrating its 165th year of service.
The Mt. Zion Auxiliary Bible Society was organized in May 1854.
Their purpose was to assist the American Bible Society in their work “to distribute the Scriptures to heathen lands.”
In the early days, the meetings lasted all day with worship, a bountiful dinner, devotions, a sermon and a business meeting. In 1888, the meeting date was set as the third Wednesday in August as it continues today and the Society has continued its tradition of meeting every year since 1854 to the present day. In 1902, the name was changed to the Lincoln County Auxiliary of the American Bible Society to include all churches in the county.
In honor of their 165th year, the Lincoln County Chapter will celebrate with a Worship and Music service. This event will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 21 at Mt. Zion A.R. Presbyterian Church, located at 861 Highway V, three miles east of Highway 61. The event starts at 7 p.m., with Special Music provided by Michelle McLane from New Hope Baptist Church.
The Worship Message will be given by Rev. Bill O’Neal from St. Stephens Methodist Church, Troy.
The business meeting will be led by Pastor Kelly Hardcastle, Chapter President. All are welcome to share in the evening.
