Due to COVID-19, many summer 4-H events and activities were held virtually or modified in some way.
The annual 4-H Judging & Achievement Day was held virtually June 8-12. Members competed in Zoom public speaking on June 8 and demonstrations on June 10. In addition, members were able to upload photos of their outfit made for dress revue and participate in personal development and judging by using Google Forms.
Instead of the traditional four-day 4-H camp held at Cuivre River State Park, members experienced three days of virtual learning. The camp was held by Zoom on June 29, July 6 and July 13 from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. each night.
Each session was centered around a different theme: Great Outdoors, STEAM and Fun and Games. Topics included: animal tracks, robotics and a scavenger hunt. In addition, pre-recorded flag raising and lowering was held, not to mention a virtual campfire complete with 4-H songs.
Since the Lincoln County Fair was cancelled, 4-H exhibit judging was modified to a one-day event on July 13. Members brought in exhibits from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and then volunteers from Warren County judged. All exhibits were released from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. This allowed members the opportunity to have exhibits selected for the Missouri State Fair.
While these delivery methods were not ideal, it gave members the chance to use social media and learn new technologies.
