On Monday, Feb. 3, the members of Silex High School’s Student Council held the district’s annual Pink Out The Night event at the Silex vs Bowling Green basketball game. Evenings with the same purpose have been held in Silex for approximately 10 years.
Each year, StuCo members gather sponsorships and sell t-shirts to draw attention to breast cancer awareness. Funds from t-shirt sales and contributions from sponsors totaled $2,200 during this year’s event. All proceeds will be donated to the Lincoln County Relay for Life.
According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF), every 2 minutes a woman living in the United States is diagnosed with the disease. Three and a half million breast cancer survivors now reside in the U.S. according to data gathered by the NBCF
All those who participated in the Pink Out night are to be commended for supporting research about individual treatments, as well as the quest for cures and prevention.
